HELP!!!!

WARNING - this post has absolutely zero quilt related content!
I'm in a pickle, and I'd like some opinions; it's a complicated scenario. I hold a key position in this dialysis clinic, which is currently in an advanced state of choas because of the need to relocate and make repairs to our own clinic, as well as several resignations which left us understaffed. Within a few weeks that work will be complete and we'll be able to move back, which is will be another 2 weeks of insanity, extremely long hours and very very high stress. Meantime, I have been approached with another job offer, one that I really really want. (better money, fewer hours and about 1/32nd the stress) My personal standards tell me it's not OK to run out while there's so much trouble in the clinic, knowing my absence will be a big blow on top of all the other problems. My potential employers understand and are willing to wait but not indefinately. Add into this mix my wish that I could have 2 or 3 weeks off before starting another job, and suddenly I'm feeling squished. I can see both sides so clearly that I'm paralyzed. My friends and family all say RUN, don't walk, and get out of there fast; and my conscience says "How could you???"
This has been simmering for a couple of months now, and today I got a gentle little nudge from the potentials. I'm so torn -- what the heck should I do???

I think you need to think of your mental and physical health. Stress is not good. Look out for YOU! In my office we always know that we can be replaced, which isn't a bad thing! They will adjust and find someone. IMHO

I totally agree with Mar. If it were me, I'd be thinking how much time would pass before they have forgotten about me. Do what's right for you......

I completely agree with the previous two posters. Why put a job that you would really love to have in the back seat?? The stress of working in that kind of atmosphere has to be horrible! Do what you really want to do -- and take the other position!

My unit in the hospital that I worked for was moving to another hospital. I knew that the new hospital was 10 times bigger and was going to be very stressful and busy and not what I wanted - but I had worked for the same manager I really liked for almost 10 years. I felt terrible about everything but I really didn't want to work at the new hospital - but it meant leaving the people I really liked working with. But I really had to consider what was best for me personally. So I changed jobs -- I did stay around for the move and for a couple of weeks after the move. My manager understood and I am so incredibly happy I changed jobs. It took a few months for the shock of the whole thing to wear off but once I settled in I never looked back -- no regrets at all. And I still get together for lunch and a visit with all my old work mates on occasion.

Sometimes you really must consider what is best for you personally and be a little selfish. Good luck.

Yep, I agree with the other commenters. I think you need to do what's best for you in the long run and try to ignore the feeling of guilt at leaving your old position.

you need to take the new job....YOU KNOW that is the best choice for you.

You know, we nurses are so tied in to being the end-all, do-all for everyone. Don't neglect caring for yourself too. If this is a way you can care for yourself....maybe you should do it. You are worth less stress, better work, etc...I know that you will make the right decision, whatever it is!! hugs to you!

You need to do what is best for you and your family. Remember...you can't take care of anyone else if you don't take care of yourself first.

I will pray for you that you make the right choice for you and the clinic.
I am catching up and your posts had me laughing, crying and sighing! I loved the Grandma post of course....I totally agree.
Great winter swap and I love the dollies!!

Run like the wind! They will get by without you and NO ONE needs that much stress. Would there ever be a GOOD time to leave? No. And think of the regrets of a missed opportunity, especially when things get bad again.

Run. Don't walk.

I would make the change. If you don't, you'll be stuck at your current job once things calm down, and probably having a lot regrets.

I think we all think the same....you are a wonderful thoughtful person, putting others needs ahead of yours. But...remember you only come through this life once. Take the new job, don't look back.

Take the new job. Tell the new job you will start in one month. Give two week notice at the old one - do your best to leave them in the best shape you can do - it's a short term burst of stress. Then LEAVE without guilt -get out of town for a week if you can - if nothing else - tell people you are leaving and don't answer the phone! Destress with sewing at home or away. You'll be more rested and ready to jump into the new job! Good luck!

PS Hmmm, it's always easier to decide things for someone else! I'm in a retirement pickle myself - cannot decide how to handle it. I think thinking about your situation helped me clarify too! Good luck!

As a former Director of Human Resources I'm going to suggest that you leave your current job. I believe that mentally you've left your current job and are ready for a new start. I agree with Mar, they will adjust and find someone.
Just my opinion, as well.

this is exactly what happened to me 3 years ago...I took the job and haven't looked back, best thing that I could have done for myself, for my hubby and for our future all the way into retirement.

go for it girl!
