From Good to Bad

What a weekend. I'll be happy to get to work so I can relax. Saturday I spent the day down south with all the grandkidlets, a huge treat for me! Last Tuesday was my DD's birthday, and friday was my DGD and I, both. So saturday we partied. Took the two older girls to the park for a picnic and playtime, then off to visit both the new baby boys - ya-hooo!

3-month old Jayden is on the left, and 5 week old Nicholas on the right. It's going to be so much fun watching these guys grow up together - they are already so different! Well, stands to reason; look at this-
This is my two sons with their sons. (Man, I love this!) So each new baby looks like his respective Dad, and I couldn't be more pleased.

Saturday night when I got home I was met in the driveway by our oldest DGD, telling me DH's horse was down, and had been down for 1/2 hour or so. I went out and took a look and knew immediately this was bad. I called the vet out, and rounded up DH and set up floodlights. DH and the vet arrived about the same time, 9 pm or so, and pretty soon we knew we were going to lose Dolly. She had evidently had a stroke and her backend was partially paralyzed. We had to make the sad, awful decision to put her down. Her registered name is GO DANCING DOLL, and she lived 24 very good years. This horse was instrumental in saving me when I broke my neck in a riding accident years ago, on top of a remote mountain. She took DH a long hard 12 miles away to find help, and stayed strong the whole time, collapsing when she finally got back to her own barn.

That horse had more personality than most people you'll meet - one of her nicknames is Miss Lips - she can undo gate latches! She was with us for 16 years, a definate part of the family. To compound our sadness, Dh and I have been struggling with my old old dog, and had finally made a date for her to go to Heaven, this week. It's so hard to lose two old friends in one week. Our house won't be the same.

So, so hard seeing those endings. But you also have such fabulous new beginnings. Try to focus on that.

I'm so sorry to hear about your furry friends! It's hard to realize that not only are we aging, our pet are aging also.

The babies are lovely--what fun for you and your family!

Been there, done that ... about the animals, that is. Sad days, following many years of trust and friendship. They gave us much joy, didn't they? 8-)

Oh my, I'm so sorry to hear about your horse. It is so hard to lose a pet -really a friend, that you have had for 24 years. And then the dog as well. So sad ((hugs))

I grew up with horses and I know how they each have such individual personalities and how attached you can get to them.
